In the sea of stainless steel appliances, there are still many customers looking for alternatives. Some don’t like the amount of cleaning entailed with stainless steel finishes. Others feel that shiny stainless steel is glaring and they would preferred a softer look. Whatever your particular hesitance with stainless steel, you should take a look at the GE Slate Appliances available at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC). Here’s how GE describes the slate finish:

GE’s exclusive Slate finish exudes refinement and elegance for a look unlike anything on the market today. Inspired by the rich texture of stone, it provides a warm, inviting alternative to stainless steel.

Slate not only offers an option that’s elegant and modern, it also maintains its great appearance. The dark matte finish naturally hides fingerprints, smudges and dirt. It’s also a breeze to clean using a clean cloth and a mild household detergent.

Evidently, Rachel Ray has updated her TV kitchen with GE Slate Appliances. Notice the magnets – something you can’t do with stainless steel.

It sure looks like Slate is going to be around for a while, too. GE launched this finish in 2012, and now they’ve announced that they’ll be doubling the number of models available in the GE Slate finish:

“The popularity of Slate among consumers has exceeded our expectations,” said Brian McWaters brand general manager for GE Appliances . “Beating our sales forecast proves there is a strong demand for this premium finish. We look forward to expanding the line in September.”

Slate’s low-gloss, warm gray finish offers an inviting alternative to stainless steel and complements popular kitchen décor

It’s also worth noting that GE feels that Slate can successfully blend in with stainless steel and other finishes. Perhaps the contrasting brush stainless steel handles and knobs allow you to have it both ways with the Slate and stainless “connecting” in the same environment.
