New FIRST Energy Star Dryers
Get these new dryers at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center
Energy Star® appliances have been around for decades. Why are we just now getting electric dryers with Energy Star® ratings? The reasoning for not having Energy Star® rated dryers has always been that dryers were all about the same when it came to energy usage. Evidently, that has changed. The advanced moisture sensors that are available these days can give dryers equipped with this technology an edge over those using traditional thermostats to cycle on and off.
Whirlpool has jumped on this development, and now has the first ENERGY STAR® dryers on the market. Below is what Whirlpool has to say about their new dryers, and a list of the qualified models:
SAVE WITH THE Industry’s first ENERGY STAR® certified dryers.
As the first appliance manufacturer to offer electric dryers with ENERGY STAR® certification, Whirlpool Corporation's energy efficient dryers now offer more opportunity to save on energy bills. These models exceed government efficiency standards by over 20%. When coupled with an energy efficient washer, users can benefit from even greater savings.

Here is a list of key features on the WED87HED Whirlpool Duet Dryer with Steam:
Advanced Moisture Sensing System
Three built-in sensors read incoming air temperature and outgoing air temperature while monitoring moisture levels inside the dryer. This helps the drying cycle end when everything is perfectly dry, saving time and energy and helping to prevent overdrying
7.4 Cu. Ft. Capacity
The 7.4 cu. ft. capacity dryer offers enough space to care for loads from the Duet washer with ease. You'll even be able to dry bulky items like comforters and sleeping bags.
Quad Baffles
Four shorter, staggered baffles increase the effectiveness of the dryer for small loads and promote better, more balanced tumbling.
Wrinkle Shield Plus Option with Steam
Help keep wrinkles from setting into your clean clothes for up to 140 minutes. These models use the added benefit of steam for even better wrinkle-fighting performance.
Tap Touch Controls with Memory
The sleek Tap Touch control interface allows direct access to dryer functions and remembers your last cycle and settings.
Steam Refresh Cycle
The Steam Refresh cycle uses water and heat to relax wrinkles and reduce odors from clothes in just 22 minutes. It's ideal for those items you'd rather not rewash.
EcoBoost Option
The EcoBoost option saves energy by using less heat and extending cycle time. You'll enjoy great drying performance while using less energy.
