The Disappearing Refrigerator
Sub-Zero Integrated Refrigerators and FreezersLet's begin by setting the record straight on built-in refrigerators with cabinet panels, versus fully integrated refrigerators with cabinet panels that are flush with adjacent cabinets. The Sub-Zero brand pioneered built-in refrigerators decades ago, and continues to be a leader in this appliance category. They have long had cabinet panel options for their refrigerators, but not what we now call "fully-integrated". In fact, Sub-Zero typically exposed their trademark grills on top of the refrigerator where the compressor compartment was located. They still make these refrigerators, and they are very popular. However, today's fully-integrated refrigerators with custom flush-fitting matching cabinet panels, are indistinguishable from the adjacent cabinets. They're often referred to as invisible or disappearing refrigerators.A few years ago, Sub-Zero Wolf embarked on a major re-design of their entire appliance offering. This update included a complete launch of integrated refrigerators, freezers, and wine storage units, accompanied by undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, as well as undercounter beverage and wine storage units. Here are some of Sub Zero's latest products in their own words: How often have you wished for a larger refrigerator? Weekly? Daily? We invite you to think modular and solve your food storage problems once and for all. The Sub-Zero Integrated 24” All Refrigerator Column delivers an impressive 12.9 cu. ft. of well-organized refrigerator storage – likely at least 50% more than you have now. Pair it -

KBIS 2016 New Appliances
IBS/KBIS 2016 more new products...and one more thingLiebherr Under Counter Slide-Out RefrigeratorComing Soon to Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterIt's no secret that there is considerable growth in the undercounter appliance category. At the January 2016 Kitchen and Bath Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas Liebherr showed a unique "pull-out" undercounter refrigerator. Here's what they said about the UPR 503:"The new UPR 503 undercounter pull-out refrigerator ensures that fresh food is always within reach. Combining high energy efficiency with optimal storage space, the UPR 503 can be adjusted in height to match that of the countertop for perfect alignment with your kitchen design. The UPR 503 offers maximum ease-of-use thanks to its SoftTelescopic system of self-retracting and fully-extendable tiered storage compartments. This is the perfect space-saving addition for any kitchen or living area."The growth in the undercounter appliance category is a reflection of the practicality and the increasing need for accessibility for everyone. This includes our largest demographic group, baby-boomers, as well as all those in our population who for any number of reasons don't have easy reach for food stored higher than counter height. While at one time, most under counter refrigerator products were inexpensive fridges for college dorm rooms, major luxury and specialty brands such as Sub Zero and U-line, and now Liebherr are recognizing that accessible is not age or price point driven, but need driven. Regardless of your interest in undercounter refrigerators or other major appliances and plumbing fixtures, you're sure to find what you need at Universal -

Building a Wet Bar
Here's some help with your new wet barFrom Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Think of what you need for a wet bar. You need a bar area. That implies cabinets with storage for glasses and bar supplies. And if you want it to be "wet" it needs a working faucet and sink. Depending on your habits, you'll probably want a beverage center and/or a wine cooler of some kind. It's also possible you'll want to substitute or add a beer cooler. Finally, many wet bars include built-in icemakers. Here are some bar examples and some of the options that Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center can provide. The below "wet" bar is not a wet bar at all since it has no sink. It's entirely possible there is no water connection at all, but it does have a wine unit, and appears to have separate beverage storage also. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) has a large selection of both wine coolers and beverage centers from entry-level up to luxury units. Though we can't see all of the above wet bar, it clearly has a bar sink and faucet. It also looks as if it has a built-in dishwasher on the right with a cabinet panel, another nice touch for a wet bar if there is room. The wet bar below fits in a compact space, but is well equipped with wet bar sink and faucet in the center, a Viking icemaker on the left and a Viking wine unit on the right. Placement of Wall Ovens
Finding the Ideal Location for Your Wall Oven Many customers spend hours on the internet, and in showrooms researching wall ovens for their new kitchen. Should it be a single oven, double oven, or combination oven/microwave? Is convection important? What about steam? HOLD ON!! First things first! You need to have a kitchen layout, before you begin the selection process. Where will the oven or ovens be located, and are you going to have the requisite power available? Not too high nor too low, but just right for YOU. Unfortunately, wall ovens too often get placed either too high or too low for convenient operation. Since it's a new installation, why should you settle? You don't want an oven control panel so high that you need to be on your tiptoes to operate it. Nor do you want one so low that your back goes into spasms every time you place an item on the lower rack. Take a moment before deciding on the perfect oven to find the perfect location for the oven. New oven designs are available so that you can also choose among traditional drop down oven doors, side swing doors, or even French doors. Click below for blogs covering: Appliance trends French door and side swing ovens Would one of these new options work well for you? Here are a few choices to consider: Microwaves are now often finding new places to fit in the kitchen. Counter height is ideal, but not always practical. Undercounter is -

Compact Undercounter Laundry Equipment
Undercounter washers and dryers Choose from top brands at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center As part of our series on undercounter appliances, today we're covering washers and dryers designed for installation in a base cabinet. Here in the U.S., we have separate laundry rooms, designed to accommodate full-sized top loading or front loading washers and dryers. They overwhelmingly are one of the big U.S. brands such as GE, Maytag, or Whirlpool or from one of the Korean brands, LG or Samsung. However, some of the top brands in undercounter laundry equipment are European names. Asko, Bosch, and Miele don't even compete in the large capacity U.S. laundry market, but they are big names in 24" wide washers and dryers that fit underneath a counter (though GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire also have models at the low end of this market). Since most washers sold in Europe are designed to fit in a 60 cm (24") base cabinet in the kitchen, this appliance category falls into the wheelhouse of the European brands. They do a great job of washing in less time than their U.S. counterparts and are very energy efficient. Their compact size not only means that they can be located in tight spaces, they are accessible and perfect to use for universal design. Bosch Fit speed and style just about anywhere. With their sleek design, our matching Bosch 24" laundry units offer best in class installation. Stack them in a closet or install -

Choosing an Undercounter Trash Compactor
Undercounter Appliances Part 2 - The Trash Compactors Shop Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center for Trash Compactors The trash compactor is a handy appliance that will compact your trash by a factor of 4-6 times. Today's compactors come with advanced features such as deodorizers, child lockouts, and convenient drop down doors for trash removal Trash compactors come in a standard 15" width size (Broan discontinued their 12" models a few years ago), and will fit nicely in standard depth cabinets. Even though they have powerful rams that compress your trash, the 1/3 hp models all work on a standard 120v. circuit. The 3/4 hp models require 220v. circuits. Depending on the brand or model, your trash compactor will have a compaction ratio of 4:1 - 6:1 and compaction force of 2,300 - 3,000 lbs.
