Important Features to Look For When Purchasing a New Refrigerator
Food storage methods have evolved a great deal in recent years. The advances in technology have created a variety of refrigerator options, so refrigeration is now not just about keeping perishables fresh. With the hundreds of features to choose from, buying a new fridge can cause a great deal of consumer confusion. So, here we’ll explore some important features you should look out for when you’re shopping for a new refrigerator. The Right Door Style Fridge opening options have significantly changed over the years, making it easier to choose the right door style to suit your kitchen. Side by side models allow you to get access to certain foods without opening the whole refrigerator. French doors offer similar benefits and make organizing easier. If you want quick access to your frozen foods, you may prefer a traditional top or bottom freezer door. Door Alarms If you have toddlers or young children in your household, safety should be a consideration for your purchase. Some models have door locks and alarm systems that will alert you if the door has been left open or if a child may be playing with the refrigerator. This type of alarm can save energy, as the internal temperature is reduced if the door is left open. Additionally, you may wish to choose a refrigerator with a door lock, so you don’t need to worry about little ones spilling drinks or getting into the treats without permission. Adjustable, Sliding Shelves There are a lot of considerations when -

2018 Kitchen Appliance Trends to Look For
If you’re thinking about giving your kitchen a makeover, you’re likely to want to be up to date on all the latest kitchen appliance trends. An appliance can enhance the functionality of your kitchen, but if you make a poor choice, you could find yourself stuck with something that is outdated before your renovation is fully complete. So, here we will explore some of the 2018 kitchen appliance trends you should look out for when you’re planning your new dream kitchen. Black Stainless Steel Stainless steel appliances have been around for years, and they offer perhaps the most versatile finish, but there is no hotter kitchen appliance trend today than a black stainless steel finish. This finish offers many of the benefits provided by traditional stainless steel, such as being scratch and smudge proof, but with a new contemporary edge. Black stainless steel complements bold, darker colors, with versatility to match many design styles and other finishes. Whether you’re planning a sleek modern aesthetic or a more traditional look, you can seamlessly incorporate black stainless steel. There are a number of kitchen manufacturers who have embraced this new trend, started by LG in 2015. The LG STUDIO line, which is a high end, luxury line inspired by Nate Berkus, includes everything from ovens, refrigerators, and dishwashers to many more in this fantastic finish. KitchenAid, Samsung, Dacor and Whirlpool also offer some great black stainless steel appliances, so don’t assume you’ll be stuck with a choice of white or traditional stainless -

Smart Appliances at UAKC
What to look for in Smart AppliancesSmart Choices at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterWhat's a smart appliance? There's more than one definition, but for our purposes here we're going to say that a smart appliance has some degree of connectivity. It might be as simple as an app that notifies you if your refrigerator door has been left open for some period of time. Or it might be remotely pre-heating and cooking a roast from your smartphone. All of this may sound wonderful, but there are pros and cons.Is it safe? Some manufacturers, as well as UL (Underwriters Laboratory) have expressed views on limiting remote capabilities for certain products. For example, should a remote app for ovens allow consumers to put their ovens through a self-clean cycle while nobody is home? Even remotely operating a cooking appliance of any sort has some consumers wary. One manufacturer has a remote app that can be set to operate only by Bluetooth which gives the homeowner complete use of remotely operating the appliance only within the house. How much is the premium for Smart Appliances? The first refrigerator with a TV built into the door launched over a decade ago and retailed close to $10,000. It really had little functionality, and failed miserably. Today, Samsung has a Family Hub refrigerator with a 21" tall wi-fi enabled full-featured communications center in the door and cameras inside that can be viewed remotely eg. from the grocery store with the Samsung app. The Samsung Family Hub refrigerator retails for $5800. -
