Saving Water in Your Home
Water Saving Tips Mark Twain is usually credited with saying, "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." Today, we might say the same thing about the drought. There's lots of talk about saving water, but as individuals we could be doing a lot more. Here is some data from the EPA about our water usage Each American uses an average of 100 gallons of water a day at home. We can all use 30 percent less water by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances. The average household spends as much as $500 per year on their water and sewer bill and can save about $170 per year by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances. Here are a few things you and I could do today to save water today inside our homes. Easy Ways to Save Water at Home Install low-flow water faucetsThe average person loses 10 gallons each day to household leaks (14% of indoor water usage). Installing new low-flow aerators is the best single thing that can be done to save water inside the house, and it requires no behavior change. At a minimum, we should at least repair leaky faucets and toilets. Take showers rather than bathsFilling a bathtub will take 20 gallons of water or more, but taking a 5 minute shower using a low-flow shower head will use about half the water of the bath. Don't leave the water runningWhen standing at the sink engaged in grooming, shaving, washing hands,or brushing teeth turn -

New Plumbing Fixtures at 2015 Kitchen and Bath International Show
Brizo Wins Gold at KBIS 2015Articulating faucets are latest trend While articulating faucets are nothing new, Brizo's styling on their lineup of articulating faucet is unique. Brizo says that the style is reminiscent of the design of an architect lamp. The cable design also brings to mind the boom arm on a crane or even an old draw bridge.Importantly, the functionality of the pull-down swinging arm along with the docking and undocking spray arm is a clever and effective method of maneuvering a faucet around the kitchen sink. The KBIS judges thought so also as they awarded Brizo's new Articulating Faucet their top Gold winner for Best in Kitchens. In addition, the Solna Articulating Kitchen Faucet won a Metropolis Likes award for innovative design.Brizo always has an eye-catching and dramatic booth at KBIS and this year was no exception. The display of articulating faucets was one of the highlights of the booth. The new faucet design will be available in the Spring of 2015 in the clean, contemporary Solna collection of fixtures. Shown above, the Artesso style, inspired by the detailed mechanical workings of early 20th century metal-works, will debut in the Summer of 2015. Check this blog often for more news on the many new appliance and plumbing products and ideas featured at the 2015 Design and Construction Week (KBIS/IBS). 2014 Kitchens
3 Kitchen Trends in 2014 Here's what has been trending in kitchen design: Contrast A little more than a decade ago appliance manufacturers called it white-on-white. White appliances with chrome trim had been de rigueur for years, so the early movement to solid white was a big deal in the beginning of the last decade. Kitchen cabinets, countertops, sinks and even faucets contributed to the solid white kitchen. Even today, an all-white kitchen is not unusual or out of place. However, for several years, we've seen the ever popular white kitchen complemented with contrasting yet subdued colors, in particular grey. Now, contrast is becoming more bold with black showing up in islands and base cabinets, stainless steel sinks, and chrome, or even gold faucets. Color Along with non-white cabinets, sinks, and faucets, 2014 saw more solid contrasting colors on kitchen walls not just gray or black, but also bright colors and pastel shades. Thanks to specialty appliance manufacturers such as Smeg, BlueStar, Bertazzoni, and even Viking, many appliance color options are now available even though stainless steel continues to dominate. Changes in upper cabinets and islands. Upper cabinets are sometimes being replaced by shelves, and occasionally disappearing entirely. See the limited use of upper wall cabinets in the photo above. Islands have been around for a long time, but we're seeing more use of islands for seating, and even tables and chairs as substitutes for islands. What can we expect in 2015? There will be more of the same as -

Building a Wet Bar
Here's some help with your new wet barFrom Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Think of what you need for a wet bar. You need a bar area. That implies cabinets with storage for glasses and bar supplies. And if you want it to be "wet" it needs a working faucet and sink. Depending on your habits, you'll probably want a beverage center and/or a wine cooler of some kind. It's also possible you'll want to substitute or add a beer cooler. Finally, many wet bars include built-in icemakers. Here are some bar examples and some of the options that Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center can provide. The below "wet" bar is not a wet bar at all since it has no sink. It's entirely possible there is no water connection at all, but it does have a wine unit, and appears to have separate beverage storage also. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) has a large selection of both wine coolers and beverage centers from entry-level up to luxury units. Though we can't see all of the above wet bar, it clearly has a bar sink and faucet. It also looks as if it has a built-in dishwasher on the right with a cabinet panel, another nice touch for a wet bar if there is room. The wet bar below fits in a compact space, but is well equipped with wet bar sink and faucet in the center, a Viking icemaker on the left and a Viking wine unit on the right. Brizo Technology FaucetsBeauty meets TechnologyAt Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center One look at the Brizo line of faucets and you know that beauty is their hallmark. But don't let the style fool you. It's more than just a pretty faucet. Brizo's technology is second to none. Just read what Brizo has to say about three important technological advantages they offer - Magnedock®, SmartTouch®, and DIAMOND™ Seal Technologies:Magnedock® TechnologyThe first technology of its kind available, MagneDock features a patented, state-of-the-art magnetic docking system. This system securely holds the spray wand in place when not in use. The durable magnets are made to last forever, while their polarity keeps the spray head perfectly aligned, for a clean, seamless look that maintains the faucet’s distinctive form.SmartTouch® TechnologyThe SmartTouch® Technology touch faucet does nothing less than change the way you interact with water. Simply touch anywhere on the faucet body or handle to turn on or off the water. When you tap the faucet ON, the LED light indicates SmartTouch is active. When you tap the faucet OFF, the light goes off. SmartTouch also works to conserve water by activating flow only when needed, while its flexible operation promotes safe food handling.DIAMOND™ Seal TechnologyOur DIAMOND™ Seal Technology uses a diamond-coated ceramic disc with an extremely smooth, hard and durable diamond coating that eliminates the need for lubricant. There’s nothing to wash away and no sticking—the faucet will operate as smoothly after 20 years as it did on Day One. -
