Black Stainless - The latest Appliance Color
Latest Appliances at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterBlack Stainless SteelA quick look around the major appliance displays at the January 2017 *IBS/KBIS confirmed that the new color/finish Black Stainless is THE big trend in appliance colors. Of course, stainless steel is not going anywhere. In a recent survey, 72% of respondents opted for stainless steel. Truth is, there are tons of appliance colors out there. The custom high end range company BlueStar offers several hundred colors, many of them quite stunning. Luxury appliance brands such as Viking, Bertazzoni, La Cornue, and others also offer their appliances in a variety of colors. But for many of us these brands might not be realistic options, and the bright colors aren't for everyone.Voilà! Black Stainless is here to save they day. It's new and it's different. It really looks classy, but I wouldn't call it bold or risky. After all, it's a combination of the two most popular appliance colors. As near as I can determine KitchenAid was the first major appliance brand to offer Black Stainless steel. Recently, Samsung jumped on the Black Stainless bandwagon, followed now by Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE, Electrolux, and LG. I do know that some supplementary brands are on board with this new finish such as Sharp (microwaves) and at least one of the vent hood manufacturers, Zephyr.I think Black Stainless looks good in the photos, but even better when you see it and touch it. Believe it -

Outdoor Vent Hoods from AirKing to Zephyr
Vent Hoods for Outdoor Kitchens Outdoor Hoods at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center When summer heats up our attention goes to outdoor cooking. Today's popular gas grills are often not sitting in an open air location, rather they tend to be in a patio, gazebo, or other covered outdoor area. The grill is likely to be built-in and sometimes even part of an entire outdoor kitchen installation. With all this attention on outdoor grilling, it's important to understand the need for outdoor venting. If your grilling is done under a combustible overhead structure, a vent hood is required to control smoke, grease, and fumes. Hood manufacturers from AirKing to Zephyr are jumping into the outdoor hood category. Outdoor cooking specialty manufacturers such as Lynx, also offer their own vent hoods to complement their outdoor grills. And some appliance manufacturers that offer outdoor grills such as Viking include outdoor rated vent hoods as part of their lineup. Standard indoor vent hoods, are not the same as outdoor vent hoods. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has separate standards for outdoor appliances. For example, wiring must be shielded and protected from the elements. Buyers should make sure that their outdoor hood not only meets regulatory standards, but that they are also durable and cleanable. Heavy duty stainless steel baffles effectively filter smoke and grease and they're also easy to clean. Here's a photo of a Lynx outdoor grill with backsplash and vent hood. It's easy to see that this unit will not only be effective -

Choosing a Range Vent Hood
Range Hood Guidelines Common Sense Range Vent Hood Evaluation Tools A. Requirements Ventilation objectives. Range hoods perform many functions. Sometimes hood vents are used merely to circulate air in the kitchen. Usually, they are needed to remove cooking odors, vapors, particulates, and moisture from the air over the cooktop surface. It's important to consider the type of cooking you'll be doing. For example, if you cook exotic dishes that are very aromatic, you may need a more powerful vent hood. Suppose you are considering a re-circulating hood because you don't have the ability to duct outside. You need to be aware that recirculating hoods will capture some particulates, but will do little to remove vapors or moisture from the room. Ductwork. If you are installing new ducting you'll want to make sure that you take the most direct, shortest path - the fewer turns, the better. Use the largest duct size that is practical for quieter more efficent operation. Makeup air. The 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) requires when installing new vent hoods exceeding 400 cfm, makeup air must be provide in an amount roughly equivalent to the exhaust CFM. Location. The location of the range will influence the type and size of the range hood. Is the range on on an island or peninsula? Where are the windows located? What is the ceiling height? Are there ceiling fans? How much space is available between adjacent cabinets? B. Sizing the hood Best hoods offer these recommendations for hood sizing. Under -

Still More Pops of Color
Colors in your Kitchen What does it mean when we hear the phrase "POP of color"? Ask a designer and they will describe a room full of neutral colors that is brought to life by a bold and surprising use of color. Sometimes it's a bright accent wall. Sometimes it's colorful throw pillows and flowers. But always its a contrast created by adding color to an otherwise neutral room. The POP calls the attention of the viewers eyes to the bright spot or POP, and often creates a focal point in the room. Here's an example of a room that would have been a blinding snowstorm without the blue cushions and pillows. Notice also how the flowers create some balance and flow, and the clever addition of the touch of yellow in the chandelier. In the picture below, the colorful chairs create needed interest, and the color-matched light fixtures help fill the volume of the room, an important consideration in large rooms with high ceilings. In today's kitchens there are more ways than ever to add color. Kohler has recently teamed up with designer Jonathan Adler from Bravo's Top Design to introduce colored sinks that help bring life to a kitchen. Adler says, "It's the surprise factor that makes color work." According to Adler, there's nothing better than a colored sink to bring a kitchen to life. Even better, he says, "These colors work in just about any kitchen color palette to add -
