Memorial Day Appliance Sale at UAKC
Memorial Day Sale on AppliancesCan You Save Money on Appliances During Memorial Day?Friends often ask me if they can really save money by buying appliances during sale events. The answer is yes, sometimes. First, assess your situation. Do you need new appliances? Will you be remodeling in the next year or so? Do you have appliances that are nearing the end of their normal lifecycle? Do you have a strong desire for a new appliance that you'd like to treat yourself to? Have you had a run of service calls on one or more appliances? Are your old appliances energy hogs? Could you justify all or part of the new appliance costs on energy savings? If the answer to any of the above questions is yes, then you should definitely consider a visit or a call to Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center during the big 2016 Memorial Day Sale period. Here's why:Appliance manufacturers choose to accumulate their promotional dollars, and use them two or three times a year, to get the most impact out of their funds. Memorial Day is one of those times. As a result, during this sale period, you can save money on many appliances by taking advantage of these short term offers, that you won't find during the rest of the year. The team at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center -

Advice for D-I-Y Kitchen Remodeling
DIY Kitchen RemodelingBeen There - Done ThatHaving remodeled two kitchens in the last 5 years, here's some advice for Do-It-Yourself kitchen remodels. Don't.Seriously, unless you're an electrician, a plumber, a painter, and a carpenter, who can lay tile, and install cabinets, and granite countertops you're going to need help. In my case, I wasn't any of these. For my first kitchen remodel I hooked up with a designer. She saved me a lot of money with some great ideas and connected me with a general contractor. He took care of the trades while I took care of the materials with an assist or two from the designer.I later sold that house, and moved into a small older home that was perfect for us, but needed a complete update. In this case, I didn't use a designer. We did a complete gut job, but there was not much design work - just remove and replace. New floors, new paint, etc. In the kitchen we replaced everything, but kept the basic layout. If you choose to go this way, get ready for a very long process. In hindsight, I would have done everything the same, except I'd have hired a project manager to inspect the work in process and keep the job moving forward in a more timely fashion. If you decide to manage your own remodel, I'd recommend at a minimum that you stick with professionals for the work you can't handle yourself. I had a handyman scrape the popcorn ceilings, -

New From Frigidaire - Professional Style Applainces
Frigidaire Professional Appliances at Affordable Prices We've been to this year's KBIS and IBS (Kitchen and Bath and International Builder Show), and more recently the PCBC (Pacific Coast Builder Conference). So, we've seen a LOT of new appliances. One of the most impressive and practical is the new Frigidaire Professional Collection. It may be true that everybody has Pro-Look appliances these days. But outfitting your entire kitchen with this "look" can easily begin with a budget breaking $50,000. Frigidaire had a different idea with it's Professional Collection by offering professional styled kitchens starting at $4,999. Of course, you can easily double that with some of their more deluxe models, but I think you get what I mean here. When describing the Frigidarie Professional Range the reviewer below called it:"A great looking range for the rest of us."-James Atchison, Reviewed.comFrigidaire All Refigerator and All RefrigeratorThe all refrigerator and all freezer combination that Frigidaire offers is unique among the mass brands, and offers some real possibilities for a refrigerator and freezer wall or even a completely separate location for refrigerator and freezer. Kitchen remodeling ideas on a budget
Budget Kitchen Remodels 3 Great tips - 1 Bad idea I've been searching online for good ideas to remodel a small kitchen on a budget. Not necessarily a full redo, but just a few things that might help perk up the room. Below are three of my favorite tips, and one that I really don't like much at all. 3 Great Tips Paint can solve a lot of problems. Need some contrast or brightness in a drab kitchen?Want your backsplash to stand out? Visit a paint store. Take photos of the kitchen and bring in samples. I really prefer the freestanding paint stores over the big box stores. These guys really know paint, and can give you good advice. Of course, if your working with a design professional she or he will be your color expert. Cabinets dominate the space in your kitchen, but replacing cabinets can blow your budget. Think about painting those wood-stained cabinets. White is very popular these days, and will give your kitchen a bright, updated look. Here are some other ideas that can add some drama to your kitchen. If you can spare the storage or move it elsewhere, consider removing some or all of your upper cabinets. It's amazing how much volume your kitchen will gain. For many of us who are...ahem, vertically challenged, those upper cabinets aren't practical anyway. Consider installing some shelves in the free space or even wall brackets to hand pots on. Another idea is to just remove the cabinet -

Kitchen Remodeling Tips #1: Backsplashes
Kitchen BacksplashesMake your kitchen standout with unique backsplash colors and designsThe kitchen wall space above countertops and below the upper cabinets, is a great place to add color and creative touches, and contrast. Here are a few examples: Subway Tile continues to be very popular. In addition to the traditional white tiles that you see in...well in subways, these tiles are now available in a variety of colors, sizes and finishes. Glass patterns and mosaic tiles can be used to tie-in to other kitchen colors, and provide contrast at the same time. Range backsplashes provide another opportunity for differentiation. If you choose any material other than tile or glass to go behind a range or cooktop, be certain that it is heat resistant. You should also consider if you'll face any special cleaning issues due to smoke coming off the range. The space behind appliances and countertops, can get dirty quickly. On a practical side, glass and ceramic tiles can make cleaning a breeze. Choose materials carefully, and consider sealing your grout. The nice thing about backsplashes is that you get to determine how much contrast and color you wish to add, and where. Even if you're not doing a major kitchen remodel, adding or replacing a backsplash can give you an entirely new "look".Of course, another way to achieve a new look in your kitchen, is with new appliances, or sinks and faucets. Purchasing a Garbage Disposer
Food Waste Disposers at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center When shopping for kitchen appliances it is easy to overlook the disposer. Yet, this is an essential appliance for the kitchen. At Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center you can choose from these top brands: Franke, Frigidaire, GE, KitchenAid, and Whirlpool. When buying new or remodeling, a disposer should be part of the kitchen package. Also, whenever you are replacing a dishwasher, it's usually a good idea to replace your disposer at the same time (unless the disposer happens to be quite new). By replacing the disposer along with the dishwasher you can save on a second trip charge, and it is an easy switch out since the plumbing is being worked on at the same time. Disposers have motors of 1/3 hp, 1/2 hp, 3/4 hp, and 1 horsepower. Naturally, the disposers with higher horsepower will cost more. The larger hp disposers are also likely to have larger chambers meaning they will chop up more food quicker. Other features to consider are stainless steel disposer blades and chambers, and anti-jamming capabilities. There are two types of disposer systems - continuous feed and batch feed. A continuous feed disposer will have a separate switch usually located on a nearby wall. In a batch feed disposer, the motor is actuated by a locking cover on the disposer. While continuous feed disposers are by far the most common, some people prefer the safety and convenience of having the disposer only start when the disposer -

Kitchen Remodeling Advice from UAKC
Three kitchen remodeling tips that can save you money Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) is not just Southern California headquarters for major appliances and plumbing fixtures. Their professional staff will help you avoid costly mistakes by assisting you in purchasing appliances that will fit in your kitchen and work with your surrounding cabinets and countertops. Here are three remodeling tips and some advice on saving money by getting the right appliances for your kitchen remodel: Tile under your dishwasher. If you are installing a new floor in the kitchen make sure that you install flooring underneath the dishwasher. Installing flooring in front of the dishwasher, but not under it will likely mean that you won't be able to remove the dishwasher without pulling up the floor in front. This is a common problem that can be avoided if the flooring is installed under the appliance. This advice holds true for other undercounter appliances such as trash compactor, refrigerator drawers, etc. Double check appliance clearance dimensions. It's not enough to determine just the width and depth of your appliances. Review door swings and clearances to make sure that the appliance will open fully without hitting adjacent countertops, cabinets or walls. If your refrigerator has an adjacent wall, make sure that the refrigerator door will swing wide enough so that you can fully extend any interior refrigerator drawers. Be aware of corner cabinet drawers. Many cabinet drawers these days are full extension. Since most kitchen cabinets are at least 22 inches -
