UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND THOUSAND OAKS, CA

Van Nuys can be traced back to the syndicate called the Suburban Homes Company. The syndicate purchased 48,000 acres of land in 1909 from the Farming and Milling Company. The Suburban Home Company laid out new plans for roads and several towns including Van Nuys.

The town of Van Nuys was officially founded in 1911 and was named for one of the developers Isaac Newton Van Nuys. After the Los Angeles Aqueduct was completed in 1915, it provided the water needed for further growth, and Van Nuys was annexed by Los Angeles. The early land sales and commercial ventures were boosted by Van Nuys being made the first new stop on the Pacific Electric Railway San Fernando Line. 

Today, Van Nuys has a population of approximately 103,000 residents, with a long, diverse commercial district along Van Nuys Boulevard. Van Nuys also has several recreation areas with auditoriums, gymnasiums, community rooms, tennis courts and soccer fields.
