Valley Village Los Angeles

UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND VALLEY VILLAGE, CA

Located in the San Fernando Valley, Valley Village is a Los Angeles city neighborhood. According to the Valley Village Homeowner Association co-president, Elke Garman, Valley Village has a history dating back to the 1930s.

While it was officially a part of North Hollywood, the neighborhood developed when houses for the workers at the motion picture studios nearby built houses, but the local post office would cancel any mail that had a “Valley Village” postmark. Valley Village didn’t become officially separate from North Hollywood until 1991, when seven blue reflective markers were installed to mark the official border.

Today, the lushly landscaped and graffiti free streets of Valley Village are highly sought after and residents are passionate about preserving their neighborhood. A campaign in 1985 was set in motion to prevent development of “stucco mountains” that would cause traffic congestion, parking problems and blocked views due to the plans for five story homes next to the single family properties. As a result, today, a three story limit has been adopted for new buildings in the Valley Village area.
