UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND TOLUCA LAKE, CA

The affluent neighborhood of Toluca Lake is within the city of Los Angeles, 12 miles northwest of Downtown. The Toluca Lake history can be traced back to the Tongva Indians, Spanish colonization and Mexican independence. The neighborhood was part of the rancho system.

One of the amazing features of Toluca Lake is the lake itself. This 6 acre body of water is near the southeastern boundary and is fed by springs from the Los Angeles River and subterranean San Fernando Valley aquifers. Late in the 19th and 20th century, well extraction and concrete river channeling activities lowered the water table, and the bottom of the lake was surfaced with asphalt concrete to prevent seepage. While owned by the homeowners in the area, the lake is maintained by a non profit corporation, the Toluca Lake Property Owners Association. 

Like many neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles, Toluca Lake has a central business district and is some notable residents. The neighborhood spans 1.22 square miles, but the Toluca Lake Chamber of Commerce services not only Toluca Lake, but also the neighboring community of Burbank.
