As the second largest city in Ventura County, Thousand Oaks has a population of approximately 130,000 and is approximately 35 miles from Downtown Los Angeles. The city is at the core of the Conejo Valley and the city was incorporated in 1964.

Thousand Oaks was a part of the master planned city created in the mid 1950s by the Janss Investment Company. This plan included 1,000 custom homes, 2,000 single family residences, a 200 acre industrial park and a regional shopping center. 

Since the city incorporation, Thousand Oaks has rapidly spread, most of Newbury Park and two thirds of the neighboring Westlake Village were annexed during the 1960s and 70s. Today, Thousand Oaks is ranked as one of the safest cities in America. It was ranked as the fourth safest city in the population over 100,000 category by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports.
