UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND REDONDO BEACH, CA

Redondo Beach, a charming coastal city in California’s Los Angeles County, is located in the South Bay region of Greater Los Angeles, flanked by two other beach cities along Santa Monica Bay.

As of the 2020 census, its population had grown to 71,576, showing an increase from the 2010 figures.

Originally part of the 1785 Rancho San Pedro Spanish land grant, Redondo Beach now beckons with attractions like the Municipal Pier and its inviting sandy shores, drawing in tourists and sports enthusiasts. Notably, North Redondo Beach is home to the western terminus of the Metro Rail C Line, previously known as the Green Line.

Historically, the area served as a lookout point for the Chowigna Indians, and the wetlands near the AES power plant were a bountiful source of seafood and salt. Recent years have seen Redondo Beach involved in legal disputes, including a lawsuit against the California state government to block the California HOME Act (SB 9) and another lawsuit aimed at preventing the transformation of an aging waterfront power plant into a residential and commercial complex.

Covering a land area of 6.2 square miles, with over 99% of it being land, Redondo Beach’s history is closely tied to the Spanish land grants, particularly the Rancho Sausal Redondo, which extended for ten miles along the oceanfront.

The beach itself stretches from Palos Verdes in the south to the iconic Redondo Pier in the north, with the portion starting after Torrance Beach often referred to playfully as “RAT (Right After Torrance) Beach.”
