UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND PASADENA, CA

Pasadena is a city 10 miles northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. It has an estimated population of 142,000 that makes it the 183rd largest U.S city and Los Angeles County’s ninth largest city.  Pasadena was originally inhabited by the Hahamog-na tribe, a branch of the Tongva. Tongva dwellings lined the present day Pasadena, as the native people lived in dome shaped, thatched lodges.

Before California was annexed in 1848, Pasadena was owned by Manuel Garfias. Garfias retained the property title and sold off sections to Anglo settlers coming into the area. Pasadena gained great popularity and became a resort town as the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway made a stop at the town. The real estate boom prompted massive growth including the development of tourist hotels, making Pasadena a winter resort destination for wealthy Easterners. By 1940, Pasadena had grown to be the eighth largest Californian city and is widely considered to be a twin city to Los Angeles.

Today, Pasadena is known as the host of the annual Rose Bowl football game and the Tournament of Roses Parade. It is also home to numerous cultural and scientific institutions including the Pasadena Playhouse and Caltech.
