UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND PACIFIC PALISADES, CA

The coastal neighborhood of Pacific Palisades is located in the Westside area of the city of Los Angeles, California. The area has a history that can be traced back to the early 1900s. In 1911, Thomas Ince created “Inceville,” his Western film factory that employed almost 600 people at its peak.

Approximately 10 years later, the Southern California Methodist Episcopal Church purchased the land, and Rev. Charles H. Scott founded Pacific Palisades. It was intended to be a religious, intellectual commune and believers purchased lots and lived in tents while homes were being constructed. By 1925, there were 100 homes, with streets named for Methodist missionaries. The tents were replaced by cabins and eventually multimillion dollar homes with the climate of the area acting like a big selling point. The Pacific Palisades temperatures are much cooler than inland Los Angeles, but less foggy compared to other coastal areas including Santa Monica.

Today, Pacific Palisades has a population of approximately 25,000, and it lies approximately 9 miles from the UCLA campus. There are a number of landmarks in the neighborhood including the Getty Villa, Thomas Mann House, and the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine.
