Marina del Rey

UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND MARINA DEL REY, CA

Marina del Rey is a seaside community in L.A County, California. The marina is a major water recreation and boating destination for the area with the largest small craft, man-made harbor in North America, home to 5,000 boats.

Before the area was developed as a harbor, Marina del Rey was a salt marsh, fed by the Ballona Creek fresh waters and was a great spot for duck hunters. The area was referred to as mud flats, but today a more accurate term is wetlands. By the mid 19th century, there were plans to develop the area, but the Ballona Development Company formed by Moye C. Wicks went bankrupt before plans could be actioned. 

Today, the harbor is operated by the L.A County Department of Beaches and Harbors and is owned by Los Angeles County. Marina del Rey has a population of approximately 9,000 residents. There are two main parks with community festivals held in the Burton Chace Park throughout the year. Marina del Rey is also home to the California Yacht Club, Pacific Mariners Yacht Club, Fisherman’s Village, and the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center.
