UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND GRANADA HILLS, CA

Granada Hills began as an orchard and dairy farm called Sunshine Ranch. The ranch grew oranges, beans, apricots and walnuts and vestiges of the former citrus groves are still seen in the lemon, grapefruit and orange trees in the modern day neighborhood. In 1916, the first oil well drilled in the San Fernando Valley was in the area now known as Granada Hills.

Granada Hills started as a town called Granada in 1926 and the name became Granada Hills in 1941. 

Granada Hills has a number of historical landmarks. In 1966, the 101 Deodar Cedar trees lining White Oak Avenue inspired the declaration of the Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument. These trees are native to the Himalayas and can be appreciated for their beauty, timber and sheer size. White Oak Avenue has become iconic and the trees were used for the backdrop during the flying bicycles scene in the movie E.T.
