In the heart of Los Angeles county lies Culver City, taking its name from its founder, Harry Culver. But this is merely recent history, the origins of the area, making up the city, actually date back thousands of years. There is archaeological evidence suggesting a human presence as far back as 8,000 BC. The present-day Culver City was also inhabited by the Tongva Gabrielino Native American tribe.

More recently, Culver City has been a key player within the film and television industry. Between 1932 and1986, it was the headquarters of the Hughes Aircraft Company, but it is best known as the location of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayers studios. It is also home to the  NFL Network Studio, National Public Radio West and Sony Pictures Entertainment, which occupies the storied MGM lot.

While initially modest, Culver City has grown over time, annexing parcels of adjoining land, so it now spans five square miles with a population of approximately 39,000 and is considered one of the most urbane and artistically hip cities in LA County offering some of the finest dining in Los Angeles.
