UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE AND KITCHEN CENTER AND CALABASAS, CA

Calabasas is an upscale community situated in the hills of the San Fernando Valley, northwest of the Santa Monica Mountain range between Malibu and West Hills, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills and Woodland Hills in Los Angeles County, CA. With an educated and affluent population of approximately 23,000, Calabasas was formally incorporated back in 1991 and is mostly comprised of gated neighborhoods and communities. The city name is thought to be derived from the Spanish word calabaza that translates as “squash” or “pumpkin.” There is a legend that an Oxnard Basque rancher spilled a wagon of pumpkins in 1824. The load was dropped on the road to the original El Camino Real, Los Angeles. The following spring, the thousands of pumpkin seeds sprouted all along the road and where the pumpkins fell the area was named Las Calabasas. The Leonis Adobe structure in Old Town Calabasas can be dated back to 1844 and is one of the oldest standing buildings within the greater Los Angeles area.
