Burbank is one of the incorporated cities in Los Angeles County’s San Fernando Valley. It is known as the Media Capital of the World, since The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros. Entertainment and other production facilities have their headquarters there.

The city takes its name from entrepreneur and dentist, David Burbank, who established a sheet ranch in 1867. The city of Burbank has two distinct areas, but the Bob Hope Airport that is locally known as Hollywood Burbank Airport is located in downtown Burbank.

The early history of Burbank dates back to two land grant parcels in the Spanish colonial days. The first parcel was granted to Don Jose Maria Verdugo in 1798, while the other was created when Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821. In fact, this area had strategic military value and was the location of a battle to unseat the Spanish Government of California.

Burbank had steady growth and managed to weather the drought and depression of the 1890s to become a thriving economy. In 1911, it was incorporated into a city and despite the land boom collapse, it continued to grow. Modern day Burbank boasts an impressive economy with retail, entertainment and restaurant thriving businesses.
