Speed Cooking
Ovens that Cook FastUAKC can put your cooking on the fast trackThere has been a lot of development in ovens that cook quickly. Thanks to convection cooking, there's no more waiting all day for the turkey to cook. With microwave ovens many foods can be reheated in just a couple of minutes. With the advanced technology included in GE's Advantium and Viking's TurboChef, the disadvantages of traditional microwave cooking go away, but the food is still cooking at a lightning fast speed. Steam cooking has begun to make a big mark in speed cooking not just because of its speed, but because it preserves foods nutrients, flavor, and color.Let's review a few of the ovens that will cook your food faster.Thermador Steam OvenThermador is a pioneer in this category, while many others have joined in with a variety of steam options. Thermador remains a standout. Here's a quick look at the Thermador steam/convection oven. Guideline for New Kitchen Appliances
Preferences, Necessities, and BudgetThere is lots of online advice on choosing new kitchen appliances. But honestly, this can be a difficult process. Some will say, "Start with your budget." Makes sense, doesn"t it? But if you haven't purchased appliances in years, and don't know for sure what you're going to need or what things cost, it's like trying to hit a bullseye wearing a blindfold! On the other hand, just going out blindly looking for appliances seems rather foolish also. You don't know what you don't know, so where do you start? Here is how you might proceed. What is your current status? Building new, remodeling, or just a straightforward appliance update. Make a tentative timeline from now to completion. Eventually, you're going to need a hard schedule. Get started now. Think of the end state. How do you picture your new kitchen in your mind? It's totally OK to to dream a bit. Close your eyes and think of what you hope your new kitchen will look like. Check your favorite home magazines, and clip photos of what you like! My favorite online site for new kitchen ideas is Houzz. Think about a budget. Whether it's $10,000 for a built-in refrigerator, or for all your kitchen appliances, you're going to need to start with a number. Here are the basic product categories you're likely to consider. The categories are necessities. Make sure you get the features that are important to you, eg. refer icemaker and dispenser, self-cleaning oven, quiet dishwasher -

New trend in appliances
New French-Door OvensFrench-Door ovens for the home have been in various stages of planning for the past 10 to 15 years. They've existed in commercial kitchens for some time, and features from commercial appliances often migrate to the home appliance category. So, it was no surprise to see Viking and GE Monogram introduce French-Door wall ovens last year.Among other high end specialty cooking brands both BlueStar and American Range have introduced French-Door wall ovens. Today, we're going to showcase the latest offering in this category: GE Café's new French-Door wall ovenWe've written about the GE Monogram French-Door wall oven before (New GE Monogram Oven). GE is now also introducing a French-Door wall oven in its Café appliance line. Here are the key features of the new GE Café French-Door wall oven:Self-Clean with Steam-Clean optionYou are probably used to having a self-clean oven so you may be surprised to learn that most of GE's competitors in this category do not offer a self-clean oven even at a much higher price than GE Café. On top of the self-clean feature you can save time and save energy by using GE's Steam Clean feature.True European Convection with Direct AirThere are different types of convection. This GE oven delivers True European Convection which includes a rear convection fan surrounded by an additional convection heating element. The Direct Air feature adds heated air distribution from the top of the oven for the best in even heat, a GE exclusive.Wi-Fi ConnectWith Wi-Fi Connect users can remotely -

Great Solutions for Small Kitchens
Designs and Ideas for Small Kitchen Spaces How to get by when you don't have room. *Designer Joanna Simmons suggests that if you have a tiny kitchen space, blow out the ceiling to create some volume. A skylight like the one pictured below might also help. I also really like the idea of pull-outs such as a cutting board or a drop-down table to create an instant eating area. Another idea is taller upper cabinets for extra storage if ceiling space allows. Depending on your cooking needs, forget the standard 30" range and consider a 24" or even 20" range. Some urban folks, rarely cook at home. You might consider a simple 2 burner cooktop supplemented by a convection microwave, or even better one of the new steam/convection ovens. There are lots of choices for built-in appliances that fit in a 24" cabinet. Creative lighting will help the room look more spacious. Consider under cabinet lighting. LED's give you a lot of light and take up little room. Of course, white or other light colors can make a room look bigger, and even small windows and skylights for natural light help enormously. If you can get by with an undercounter refrigerator, here's one from Danby that has a separate freezer compartment. Perhaps width, not height is the issue. Here's a Liebherr refrigerator that's a tall 79 inches in height, but only 24 inches wide. It's surprising how true the saying is "Necessity is the mother of invention." For more ideas -
