Memorial Day Appliance Sale at UAKC
Memorial Day Sale on AppliancesCan You Save Money on Appliances During Memorial Day?Friends often ask me if they can really save money by buying appliances during sale events. The answer is yes, sometimes. First, assess your situation. Do you need new appliances? Will you be remodeling in the next year or so? Do you have appliances that are nearing the end of their normal lifecycle? Do you have a strong desire for a new appliance that you'd like to treat yourself to? Have you had a run of service calls on one or more appliances? Are your old appliances energy hogs? Could you justify all or part of the new appliance costs on energy savings? If the answer to any of the above questions is yes, then you should definitely consider a visit or a call to Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center during the big 2016 Memorial Day Sale period. Here's why:Appliance manufacturers choose to accumulate their promotional dollars, and use them two or three times a year, to get the most impact out of their funds. Memorial Day is one of those times. As a result, during this sale period, you can save money on many appliances by taking advantage of these short term offers, that you won't find during the rest of the year. The team at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center -

Types of Stainless Steel Appliances
Surprising Differences in Stainless Steel AppliancesSee them all at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterManufacturers began using stainless steel in appliances because of its appearance as well as its durability, and resistance to corrosion. Today, they also use stainless steel because buyers want the stainless look in their kitchens.Categories of Stainless SteelThere is stainless steel and then there is stainless steel. All stainless steels are not created equal. The metallurgists among us will point out that there are 5 different categories of stainless steel: martensitic, ferritic, austenitic, duplex (ferritic-austenitic), and precipitation-hardening stainless steels. The vast majority of major appliances are made of 304 (austenitic) type stainless steel or 430 (ferritic) stainless steel. Even within these two different categories there are different grades, gauges, and finishes. Moreover, some manufacturers will use different types of stainless steel on the same appliances. For example, a dishwasher tub might have different stainless steel than the dishwasher door. Some stainless steel has superior fabrication characteristics, while others works better in specific temperature ranges, or is more corrosion resistant.Stainless Steel Finishes and CoatingsYour stainless steel appliance also has a finish called a "grain" that goes in a certain direction. On some appliances and in some lighting, the grain is more noticeable than others. Also, there are a few appliance manufacturers that offer stainless steel appliances with a protective coating. Frigidaire promotes their Smudge-Proof™ line of appliances that does a great job of hiding fingerprints. Some KitchenAid stainless steel appliances are made with clear -

No Fingerprint Stainless Steel Appliances
Smudge-Proof™, Cleansteel™ or Clean Touch Steel™Available on Frigidaire Gallery®, GE, or Miele Appliances"No Fingerprint" Appliances at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterStainless steel is the most desirable and most popular finish for kitchen appliances. In spite of its popularity, homemakers continue to complain about the need to constantly wipe and polish their stainless steel appliances to rid them of fingerprints. Now, Frigidaire is promoting Smudge-Proof™ appliances on their Frigidaire Gallery® line of appliances. It's true. At last week's Design and Construction Week trade show in Las Vegas, the Frigidaire Gallery® display welcomed my oily fingers and despite several tries nary a fingerprint was visible. Here's Frigidaire's exact claim:Frigidaire Gallery® offers an exclusive line of Smudge-Proof™ Stainless Steel kitchen appliances with a protective coating, making it effortless to keep your kitchen looking beautiful. So, if you want to avoid the hassle of the most common complaint of stainless steel appliance owners consider Smudge-Proof™ Frigidaire Gallery® appliances. It's worth noting that GE has something called Cleansteel™ which is a laminate finish (except for ranges) with the look of stainless, but without the fingerprints. GE ranges with the Cleansteel™ designation are designed to match the Cleansteel™ refrigerators and dishwashers, but do not have the laminate coating, because the laminate will not stand up to the heat from a range. Here's GE's description of Cleansteel™:The Look of Stainless Without the FingerprintsYou want to see your child's fingerpainting masterpieces displayed on the family refrigerator, not her fingerprints. With CleanSteel, you get the look of -

GE Slate or Frigidaire SmudgeProof™ Appliances
Solutions for Cleaning Stainless Steel Appliances UAKC has new appliances that don't smudge If you search the internet, it's unbelievable the amount of content and debate about cleaning issues with stainless steel appliances. There are some really bizarre cleaning recommendations too! The truth is that although stainless steel IS stainless - meaning that it doesn't rust - stainless steel does smudge and show fingerprints. The good news is that those smudges and fingerprints can be easily removed if you follow these 3 rules:Always clean in the direction of the grain. Nearly all the true stainless steel used in appliances is a #4 Brush stainless. It has a visible grain. You must wipe the surface in the direction of the grain - not against it. Use long smooth strokes. You'll hear about all sorts of miracle cleaners including olive oil, baby oil, furniture polish, etc. Try a simple household window cleaner. It won't put an oily coating on your stainless steel surfaces. Clean the entire surface. Stainless looks best when the entire surface is cleaned. Cleaning just one area doesn't seem to work. It shows. If you really hate the thought of cleaning stainless steel, maybe a finish such as the new Slate finish from GE is for you. It's a classy looking grey finish. Click to read our previous blog about Slate. GE SLATE APPLIANCES Also, Frigidaire has a line of Smudge-Proof™ Appliances. Evidently, they are made from stainless steel with a protective
