A Primer on Washing Machines
Choosing the Best WasherGetting ready to buy a new washing machine? Here is the first decision you'll need to make. There are three basic types of washers to choose from. We describe each washer type below and provide an example from each of the three major brands.1. GE Traditional Agitator Type Top Loader WasherAgitator type washers were the primary type of washing machine used in the U.S. since the post WWII era up to the 2000's. They're still a popular choice for those who want a washing machine like Mom used to have and prefer the high-post agitator in the middle. Here's an example from GE.GE® 4.2 DOE cu. ft. stainless steel capacity washerGTW485ASJWS ENERGY STAR® qualified Stain PreTreat Speed Wash Rotary electronic controls with cycle status lights2. Whirlpool HE Top Load WasherHigh Efficiency top load washers have been around for about twenty years. They're absent the high post agitator of traditional washers. Instead, they have an impeller in the bottom of the tub that turns and moves the clothes in much less water than traditional agitator top loaders, but they still do an amazing job of cleaning clothes. Speed Cooking
Ovens that Cook FastUAKC can put your cooking on the fast trackThere has been a lot of development in ovens that cook quickly. Thanks to convection cooking, there's no more waiting all day for the turkey to cook. With microwave ovens many foods can be reheated in just a couple of minutes. With the advanced technology included in GE's Advantium and Viking's TurboChef, the disadvantages of traditional microwave cooking go away, but the food is still cooking at a lightning fast speed. Steam cooking has begun to make a big mark in speed cooking not just because of its speed, but because it preserves foods nutrients, flavor, and color.Let's review a few of the ovens that will cook your food faster.Thermador Steam OvenThermador is a pioneer in this category, while many others have joined in with a variety of steam options. New Appliances Fit for Los Angeles
GE to Market Haier AppliancesUAKC offers more appliance choices with HaierIt's only been a couple of short years since GE Appliances became part of the Worldwide Haier Group of appliances. At this year's Builder/Kitchen and Bath Show, GE announced the addition of Haier Appliances to its lineup. This is good news to many in the LA basin. There are an amazing number of homes and apartments in the LA area which have 24" wall and base cabinets. Replacing appliances in these cabinets can be a real problem since most US appliances are designed to fit in 30" cabinets. We've been able to get by all these years by replacing appliances with some 24" wide low end brands which have limited appeal, and more recently with some European brands which commonly are built at 60 centimeters, a width that fits nicely in a 24" space. Also, both Viking and Sub Zero Wolf have added some products in this dimension. Therefore, it's really good news that GE is now launching an updated line of Haier appliances that (for the most part) are designed to fit that 24" space. Here's what GE's vice president of sales, Robert Posthauer had to say at this years IBS/KBIS in Orlando:“Haier offers a full product suite of both built-in and freestanding appliances that fit the needs for smaller footprints and offers our customers new opportunities." The line includes some needed products for this space such as a 24" over the range microwave as well as this stunning 4 door refrigerator -

Black Stainless Steel
More thoughts on Black Stainless SteelChoices about at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterIt looks like almost everyone has jumped on the Black Stainless bandwagon when it comes to appliance finishes. KitchenAid introduced a Black Stainless Steel refrigerator only a couple of years ago. Since then, Samsung has launched an entire line of Black Stainless Steel, along with LG. However, Dacor, a Samsung owned company, appears to be the only luxury brand to enter the Black Stainless fray with their new Modernist collection.Frigidaire appears to be jumping into the Black Stainless appliance pool with a full-line offering. Parent company, Electrolux, has yet to announce its intentions with their premium Electrolux offering. Similarly, Bosch has introduced a dishwasher in Black Stainless, presumably to be followed with a full line. However, Bosch's high end brands, such as Thermador, and Gaggenau have not made a move in this direction. It seems clear that this finish has a definite appeal for Millennials, and will find a home not in the entry level, but in the upgrade offerings of the popular brands GE, Frigidaire, and Whirlpool; as well as the Korean brands Samsung, and LG who have carved out a strong offering for Millennials.Notably, Whirlpool's super premium brand, Jenn-Air does not have Black Stainless, nor does GE's luxury brand, Monogram. Here's the good news. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center is your headquarters for major appliances regardless of brand or finish. They carry all the major brands as well as most of the specialty brands, and an interesting selection -

Buying Appliances on Memorial Day
Why Buy Appliances on Memorial DayBest Overall Memorial Deals at UAKCI've been around the appliance industry for nearly 40 years. During that time I've had a variety of jobs in sales and marketing with distributors and manufacturers. Along the way, I've taught marketing classes to both undergraduate and MBA students. One area that marketers study is consumer demand. We know, for example, that each year there is a finite number of appliances sold. Annual appliance sales are determined by factors such as new home sales, household creations, appliance replacement cycles (lifespans), new appliance innovations eg. microwave ovens, and household incomes. However, holiday appliance sales, do not fit this rational model. Buying an appliance because you have a 3 day weekend is not rational. Or so, I thought. Study after study, shows that appliance sales dramatically spike during holidays. In fact, one of the biggest appliance sales weekends of the year is coming up. Memorial Day. It's not because people get married, have kids, or get raises on holiday weekends that appliance sales spike. It's certainly not because appliances tend to break down on holidays. It's because manufacturers and big retailers promote heavily with big discounts centered around holidays. Consumers like to save money. Voilà! Lot's of appliances get sold during the Memorial Day holiday period. Here are examples of two great deals available at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center during the 2017 Memorial Day Sale. click on photos below for details You may have heard the story of the youngster who asked the old -

New Appliance Finishes
Review of the Latest Appliance FinishesChoices of Appliance Finishes Abound at UAKCThe last half of the 20th century began with most appliances having porcelain enamel on steel cabinets. Porcelain was durable and easy to clean, but the manufacturing process was expensive, porcelain was subject to chipping, and was not environmentally friendly. Eventually, porcelain enamel disappeared in appliance cabinets to be replaced by steel with powder coat painted exteriors or stainless steel. In the last decade, we've begun to see some different choices in appliance exteriors. While painted surfaces remain a standard for base appliances, more expensive stainless steel is enormously popular. In recent years, we've seen new smudge-proof Frigidaire and fingerprint resistant stainless steel in Maytag brand and others. They're still stainless steel, but they have properties that eliminate or greatly reduce the possibility of smudges and fingerprints. European luxury brand, Miele, has introduced a fingerprint resistant steel called CleanTouch, as a replacement to stainless steel.Even more recently, Black Stainless Steel has hit the appliance market and appears to be taking off. Black Stainless Steel is essentially stainless steel base metal with black painted finish. KitchenAid was the first to Black Stainless Steel, and it seemed to take off slowly. But now, it is available in more brands and seems to be rapidly taking hold as an alternative to the shiny stainless steel we see everywhere. Here are some of the brands that are now offering Black Stainless Steel appliances:Brands offering Black Stainless SteelKitchenAidSamsungLGDacorMaytagFrigidaire -
