Saving Water in Your Home
Water Saving Tips Mark Twain is usually credited with saying, "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." Today, we might say the same thing about the drought. There's lots of talk about saving water, but as individuals we could be doing a lot more. Here is some data from the EPA about our water usage Each American uses an average of 100 gallons of water a day at home. We can all use 30 percent less water by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances. The average household spends as much as $500 per year on their water and sewer bill and can save about $170 per year by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances. Here are a few things you and I could do today to save water today inside our homes. Easy Ways to Save Water at Home Install low-flow water faucetsThe average person loses 10 gallons each day to household leaks (14% of indoor water usage). Installing new low-flow aerators is the best single thing that can be done to save water inside the house, and it requires no behavior change. At a minimum, we should at least repair leaky faucets and toilets. Take showers rather than bathsFilling a bathtub will take 20 gallons of water or more, but taking a 5 minute shower using a low-flow shower head will use about half the water of the bath. Don't leave the water runningWhen standing at the sink engaged in grooming, shaving, washing hands,or brushing teeth turn -

Kitchen Remodeling Tips #1: Backsplashes
Kitchen BacksplashesMake your kitchen standout with unique backsplash colors and designsThe kitchen wall space above countertops and below the upper cabinets, is a great place to add color and creative touches, and contrast. Here are a few examples: Subway Tile continues to be very popular. In addition to the traditional white tiles that you see in...well in subways, these tiles are now available in a variety of colors, sizes and finishes. Glass patterns and mosaic tiles can be used to tie-in to other kitchen colors, and provide contrast at the same time. Range backsplashes provide another opportunity for differentiation. If you choose any material other than tile or glass to go behind a range or cooktop, be certain that it is heat resistant. You should also consider if you'll face any special cleaning issues due to smoke coming off the range. The space behind appliances and countertops, can get dirty quickly. On a practical side, glass and ceramic tiles can make cleaning a breeze. Choose materials carefully, and consider sealing your grout. The nice thing about backsplashes is that you get to determine how much contrast and color you wish to add, and where. Even if you're not doing a major kitchen remodel, adding or replacing a backsplash can give you an entirely new "look".Of course, another way to achieve a new look in your kitchen, is with new appliances, or sinks and faucets. KBIS and IBS to Showcase New Appliances and Plumbing Fixtures
International Builders Show andKitchen And Bath Industry Show On Feb. 3-6, 2014 the International Builders Show (IBS) and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) for the first time will be co-locating their shows at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Product lines that will be showcased include many of the major appliance and plumbing fixture brands that you can find at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC). Appliance brands participating at the show include Frigidaire, Electrolux, BSH (Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau), Viking, Dacor, Liebherr, and others. Plumbing lines such as Brizo, KWC, Toto, Everpure, and many more will also exhibit. Trade shows allow manufacturers to display their products to the builders, contractors, dealers, distributors, designers, and remodelers who purchase and use their products. Manufacturers often show new products to get opinions and recommendations from industry veterans. The shows also provide an annual opportunity for customers to meet with suppliers, discuss concerns, and plan the year ahead. Just to give you an idea, induction cooking has been previewed at these shows for at least 10-15 years. Now, it is finally a reality with nearly all cooking product manufacturers offering some induction cooktops and/or ranges. Similarly, various speed cooking products have been shown over the years with mixed success. Both GE and Whirlpool have versions (Advantium and Velos) on the market now, but Thermador's Jet Impingement system shown in the early 2000's never launched. What will we see this year? Odds are there will be -

Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Ratings and Reviews (24)
Customers Write (24) Geosusan was "INSPIRED" at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Geosusan R. Los Angeles, CA My husband and I just bought our first home!! One of our major purchases was our washer and dryer. We went to Sears, Home Depot, and Lowes. We started to give up for a bit but we were having lunch at the Daily Grill in the same complex and came in to Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center for one last go. The showroom looked great and we were very inspired. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very helpful salesperson and it took just a few peeks around the store to find the washer and dryer were were looking for. We have limited space in our laundry room and they had a stackable in stock that was perfect!! My clothes love it!!! hahaha! We will most likely be returning when we redo our bathroom next month. I have my eye on a bathtub and a beautiful faucet fixture. We look forward to seeing you at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center.
