Regular cleaning is essential to maintain a consistent oven performance. Supposedly, the number one cause of house fires is clogged dryer vents. The lint trap on your dryer should be cleaned after each use, but the external vent hose and in-wall vent should be checked annually, and professionally cleaned if necessary. If your clothes are taking longer and longer to dry, or if your clothes come out of the dryer and/or the dryer cabinet gets very hot, those are good signs that your vent is clogged. Most better dishwashers already do a good job of getting dishes clean so how can steam help? Well, steam dishwashers don't necessarily use steam in the main wash cycle. One brand of steam dishwashers has a pre-wash steam cycle that loosens baked on foods, so that there is no need to hand pre-rinse dishes that are heavily soiled, thereby saving water. Other brands use steam as a finishing cycle to remove spots from stemware and leave the them sparkling. Either way, steam is an add-on that can make your life easier. Steam washers and dryers use water vapor, or steam as a cycle in the washing or drying process. There are a lot of claims and counterclaims among competing brands as to the advantages and benefits of various steam options in washers and dryers.
