Should You Choose a Freestanding or Slide-In Range?
When you’re shopping for a new range, one of the first decisions you’ll need to make is whether you choose a freestanding or slide-in range. Whether you’re remodeling or replacing your existing range to complement your existing kitchen decor, it can be a little confusing to decide which one is best. So, here we’ll walk you through both styles and considerations to help you to make an informed purchasing decision. The Freestanding Range Basics: Freestanding ranges are the most common type of range. It provides the option to install the range freestanding on its own, between cabinets, or at the end of the cabinet run against a wall. This flexibility is one of the reasons why freestanding ranges are the more popular choice, but they also tend to be more affordable compared to their slide-in counterparts. Freestanding ranges also have finished sides, making it possible to install anywhere in the kitchen without a need for cabinetry. They also tend to have a backsplash, which provides protection for the wall from splashing liquids and grease splatters during the cooking process. This style of range typically has the controls behind the burners, with knobs in front of the burners, a large oven capacity and a warming or storage drawer at the bottom. The Slide-in Range Basics: A slide-in range is designed to fit flush with countertops and blend in seamlessly with its surrounding cabinetry. This does mean that installation is required, since the appliance does not have finished sides. The installation will -

2 New Ranges from Jenn-Air
Downdraft and Center Burner Models DebutA Quick Look at 2015 Jenn-Air RangesWe thought 2014 was the year of the slide-in range for Jenn-Air with their new full-depth slide-in ranges that seem to double as freestanding ranges. But new range products continue as Jenn-Air begins 2015 with a 5 burner gas range sporting a center oval burner with a high-powered 19,000 btu dual-stacked power burner. Also, Jenn-Air is launching a new 30" dual-fuel downdraft range that accepts an optional duct-free kit for the most flexibility available for anywhere venting. We really like the look of these ranges, and the fit is impressive also. The new Jenn-Air ranges could be considered slide-in ranges that work as freestanding ranges or vice versa. Since they are full-depth ranges with front controls, no added backsplash or trim is needed.JGS1450D - Jenn-Air 30" Gas RangeWith brass burners including the 19,000 btu dual-stacked burner, this range adds a new center oval burner with an included die-cast griddle. Even though it has a giant 6.5 cu. ft. oven, there is an additional baking drawer underneath that can also be used to proof bread, or as a plate warmer. JDS1750E - Jenn-Air 30" Dual-Fuel Downdraft RangeJenn-Air is the expert in downdraft venting, and this range can be used as a conventional downdraft, or with an optional kit the range can be converted to duct-free operation. But wait...there's more! The new Jenn-air downdraft range comes with a powerful 17,000 BTU Dual-Stacked burner and an extra large 6.2 Cu. ft. oven. -

New Freestanding/Slide-In Ranges that "FIT"
New Ranges from Jenn-Air Jenn-Air ranges that "FIT" from Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center These Jenn-Air ranges were once called slide-in ranges, and it's still OK to call them that. BUT these all new Jenn-Air ranges are manufactured with finished sides, a top that doesn't overlap, and a depth that goes all the way to the back wall between the cabinets. That fits the definition of a freestanding range. What this all means in simple terms is that the new Jenn-Air ranges are designed to "FIT" for either a slide-in OR a freestanding application. In fact, the term FIT System* describes the quick, seamless range installation on these new Jenn-Air ranges. They're made to fit any freestanding range cutout as well as the traditional slide-in opening. Now, you can have the built-in look of a slide-in range with the simple installation of a freestanding range. Jenn-Air will even pay up to $100 for any necessary professional countertop cutout modification. Click on the link below for more information on the FIT System*: No remodeling necessary NEW JENN-AIR RANGESHere's how Jenn-Air describes the new ranges being launched on Dec.1st. Jenn‐Air brand has applied many of the high‐end design principles and elegant touches behind its luxury built‐in appliances to a new collection of 30‐inch ranges offered in dual‐fuel, gas, induction and radiant options. Featuring a full‐depth design that easily installs seamlessly into a standard opening, these latest models offer five burners, increased oven baking capacity and a -

New Ranges at UAKC
New Slide-In Ranges from GE, Electrolux, and Jenn-AIr What's a slide-in range? Traditionally, there have been significant differences between a slide-in range and a freestanding range. Slide-in ranges normally have unfinished sides because, just like wall ovens or drop-in ranges, slide-in ranges are designed to be installed into adjacent cabinets, and their sides are not visible. In addition, slide-in range tops are not designed to go all the way to the back wall. As you can see in the Electrolux diagram, a strip of the countertop extends along the back wall, giving a built-in look as well as the ability to run countertop molding across the back improving sightlines. The cooking surface or range top trim is designed to overlap adjacent countertops. The idea is to give the appliance a built-in look suggesting that the cooktop and range were completely separate items. Today, things are changing. The GE Profile double oven range featured below meets only 1 of the 3 definitions, the top surface overlaps the countertop, but the range has finsihed sides, and the range top goes all the way to the back wall so that no countertop or trim strip across the back can be accommodated. The Electrolux appears to be a true slide-in range. And the new Jenn-Air (coming Dec. 1), is really a freestanding range that looks very much like a slide-in range. What does all this mean for you? More choice. If you really need a true slide-in with the countertop running across the back -

Why blog?
What good is a blog? There are many valid reasons for a business to maintain a blog. Here at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) the blogs are focused on some key principles.Educating customers and prospective customersSome UAKC blogs are primarily educational. For example, we recently explained the difference between a slide-in range and a freestanding range. Some are updated models, and others are unique and might even be game-changers. These days there are many new built-in coffee makers, and they are so-o-o much fun!
