Appliance Manufacturer Rebates and Offers
Rebates Now Available at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center There was a time...back in the 80's when there was no such thing as an appliance rebate. Apparently, manufacturer rebates first began to appear in retail stores such as grocers as a variation on coupons. Instead of redeeming coupons at the grocer, consumers had to mail them in with proof of purchase. Eventually, rebates spread to other businesses and today they are a major part of appliance retailing. GE was an early adopter of rebate promotions to encourage buyers to purchase GE appliances. click on the photo below for details: Manufacturers use rebates as part of their overall marketing program to encourage consumers to buy their brand, but just as importantly to buy a specific appliance model or even a complete kitchen appliance package. For a long time, rebates were limited to the popular mass brands such as Frigidaire, GE, and Whirlpool.
