Tips for Periodic Appliance Checkups
Maintaining Your Major AppliancesHere are some tips to maintaining, cleaning, and inspecting your washing machine and clothes dryer. You can save time and money by following this advice, and avoid breakdowns, or hazardous situations.Washing Machine It's a good idea to periodically check and replace the fill hoses on your washing machine. If you have rubber hoses, you should consider replacing them with braided stainless steel hoses. It is recommended that you replace your washer hoses every 3-5 years. While you are back there, take a look at the electrical connection. The plug needs to be firmly in place, the cord connection to the washer should have a restraint, and should not evidence any corrosion or burn marks. Also, you should periodically clean the inside of your outer washer tub. Whirlpool makes a cleaner called Affresh for this purpose. There are also a variety of home remedies including using combinations of bleach, vinegar, and/or baking soda. You can discover these cleaning remedies online, or just look on the aisles of your grocery store for washer cleaning products. If you have a front loading washer, pay special attention to cleaning the front gasket, especially at the bottom where it's possible for moisture to settle and mold to grow.Automatic DryerMake a habit of cleaning the lint filter in your dryer once a week. It's also very important to regularly clean the dryer vent. If you're lucky you'll have a short direct vent pipe to the outside that you can clean with a vacuum -

3 Water-Saving Dishwashing Tips
Save water when washing dishes We've previously written about ways to save water in your home during this drought. Click on the link below: Saving Water In Your Home Now, we'd like to specifically call your attention to saving water with your dishwasher. Here are three simple ways to save water when washing dishes. 1. Use your dishwasher. Research has shown a surprising number of households who have dishwashers do not use them. Sometimes residents believe that by hand washing they'll get their dishes cleaner, that it's more sanitary, and they'll use less water. Of course, none of this is true. Hand washing dishes uses far more water, is likely to not do as good a job getting dishes clean, and is definitely less sanitary than using a dishwasher. 2. Don't pre-wash dishes. For decades dishwasher manufacturers have been imploring homemakers to forego pre-washing dishes before they put them in the dishwasher. There are two important reasons that we should not pre-wash dishes. First, it's a huge waste of water. You're bound to use as much water pre-washing the dishes as your dishwasher uses for the entire cycle. Also, pre-washing your dishes can actually cause your dishes to come out of the dishwasher dirty, and in some cases it may even damage your dishes (especially glassware). Dishwasher detergent removes dirt molecules from the dishes and suspends them in the water where they get flushed out of the dishwasher. When the dishes are pre-washed, the dishwasher is unable to capture dirt -

Why blog?
What good is a blog? There are many valid reasons for a business to maintain a blog. Here at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) the blogs are focused on some key principles.Educating customers and prospective customersSome UAKC blogs are primarily educational. For example, we recently explained the difference between a slide-in range and a freestanding range. If you read this blog you probably won't buy a freestanding range if you need controls in the front and a range that overlaps the adjacent countertops.Freestanding vs Slide-in RangePromoting new productsWe've seen a host of new products launched recently. Some are updated models, and others are unique and might even be game-changers. These days there are many new built-in coffee makers, and they are so-o-o much fun! They all kinda look alike, but this new one called TopBrewer is different - really different! It's been touted as...The World's Finest Coffee Maker.TopBrewerSaving customers money by infoming them of rebates, sales, specials, and closeoutsFor example, though GE is probably the Grandaddy of appliance rebates, they've never before had a payout this big. It's newsworthy and literally an opportunity to save on GE "like never before".GE $2000 RebateHelping customers make better choicesCustomers want answers. But it's hard to answer a question like this. Who makes the best dishwasher? It really does depend. At ANY price? What is most important to you? Quiet...energy savings...clean dishes...at what price? Below, we try to answer your question by looking at some of the ratings.Who makes the best dishwasher? There are other -

Save Money Everyday Using Your Appliances

See blogs below:Two Viking Range Events Will Save You MoneyLuxury Appliances on a BudgetHow to Get Free AppliancesHowever, today we're offering 5 tips on saving money on the operation of your appliances. Clean appliances operate more efficiently. A dirty gasket on your refrigerator can create air gaps and let cool air escape, causing the refrigerator to run more. Clogged up ports in your dishwasher spray arms make dishwasher run longer to get dishes clean. If possible run appliances during off peak hours to save on electricity. Many appliances have delay timers that allow users to set start and stop times. Use energy saving cycles. It's not enough just having a light wash, a vacation mode, or a cold water cycle on an appliance. In order to actually save energy/money appliance owners must select and utilize these cycles when appropriate. Clean filters regularly. Range hoods, dishwashers, refrigerators, and dryers, all may have filters that need to be either cleaned or replaced periodically so that they can operate properly and efficiently. Wash full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine. It takes as much water and electricity to run a complete cycle whether the appliance is full or half-full.Of course, when buying a new appliance from Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) look for an Energy Star appliance. An Energy Star dishwasher, for example, will use 41% less energy than the federal -
